What Do I need to bring?
- You should bring your own bed linen.(ie.duvet and cover, pillow, pillow case and sheet.)
- You should also bring crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils.
- An iron and other small appliances.
- Anything else you feel you might need to make yourself comfortable for the first few days.
- You should also bring some food items to see you through, as there may not be shops open at the time you plan to arrive.
- Your own TV [ a portable preferably, you will need a TV licence]
Q. I am coming from overseas and don't want to bring bed linen as it is too bulky. Can I get some locally?
A. You can purchase a bedpack from the Residential Services office for £25.00 when you arrive, or if you prefer, there are a range of local shops where you can purchase your own bed linen. Bear in mind that these may not be open if you are arriving late or at the weekend.
The bedpacks contain:
- Quilt
- Pillow
- Pillow Case
- Sheet
Need a Helping Hand?
If you dread the prospect of bringing all these bits and pieces you may need to set up your new study room, there are a couple of easy short cuts you can take to reduce the initial hassle and the excess baggage charges.
If you will be arriving in the evening or at the weekend, it is not always practical to count on doing some local shopping for the things that you’ll need. So, why not pre-book your kitchen and bedroom essentials and have them delivered and waiting for you in a handy compact parcel? Or arrange for your personal effects to be sent on in advance?

More Need To Know...
- You will need to make sure that you have enough money (pounds Sterling) to get you through the first few days – to pay for a taxi/bus from the airport, and to help you buy food.
- If you are from outside the UK/Ireland, you should note that you will need a “UK Visitor’s adapter plug”, if you hope to use your own electrical equipment such as a laptop computer, MP3 player, or to charge up your mobile/cell phone. These can be purchased at any airport concourse, via the internet, or after you arrive.
- Finally, if you hope to bring your mobile/cell phone, you should check with your existing service provider if you can extend your service to the UK, or arrange to buy a UK sim card once you get here.
